Hartford’s Proud serves youth between the ages of 5 – 24 and strive to accomplish our mission by using the power of sound and rhythm to support youth in the development of physical and emotional skills that will aid them in conducting successful lives.

In 2013 founder Terry and Duffy Starks, saw a need for a program that focused on youth strengths as the development tool. The purpose of Hartford’s Proud is to keep kids off the street, build healthy relationships between youth and law enforcement, give young people an outlet to meet their basic needs, and build the competencies necessary to succeed. Hartford’s Proud has a unique and proactive approach that engages youth within their communities in a manner that is productive, constructive, and most of all fun. We solely focus on violence prevention, homework support, and positive outcomes.
Our year round programs brings diversity, creativity, and endless possibilities to all our youth. As an art inspired and culture driven organization, we incorporate the best practices for positive youth development including, art and music education and homework support,
We view young people as resources and encourage youth to become contributing members of our community and successful adults.
Hartford's Proud participated in the Hartford Promise Zone promotional video. Promise Zones was motivated by the Obama's Administration. That were initiated to give some communities struggling with poverty a leap in making lasting change. In 2015, North Hartford became one of only 22 promise zones to be named in the entire country.
Hartford's Proud was honored to be featured in Camp HASC promotional video,What I Am video that was song by the Maccabeats. Camp HASC provides over 350 children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities an unforgettable summer experience. Camp HASC serves the social, therapeutic, academic, recreational and medical needs of all its campers with a positive, 'person first' approach to care.
It was an honor and a privilege for Hartford's Proud to be nominated by the Brothers of Kappa Delta, Beta Sigma Lambda, and Organization of New England Chapters (ONECA), as a “Champion for Youth and Leadership Development.” at the 86th Eastern Region Convention. The public program took place on Thursday, April 26, 6:00 p.m. at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

When people work together magical things happen! Two styles collided at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Greater Together show when Hartford's Proud and a drum corp from Grandby join forces to perform in front of a roaring crowd of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving guest.
